Leaving Work at Work

I’m a workaholic. I simply cannot rest until I have taken a task or project to completion. Even now I am thinking about the tasks that await me when I walk into the office later this morning. Importantly, however, I am not working on those tasks.

Why? Because I cannot work on them. I left my laptop at work. I intend to pretty much always leave my laptop at work. I used to find the idea of maintaining two separate laptops strange. What if I wanted to access my personal data at work or vice-versa? I can’t and, honestly, it’s a distraction. When I am at work, I focus on work. When I am at home, I focus on the other aspects of my life.

During my “funemployment” I rediscovered all the fun things I used to do before I fell down the rabbit hole of workaholism. Sure, playing video games is not the most productive use of my time; but, it’s fun! More importantly, playing video games, reading books, and other non-work-related tasks are relaxing.

When I wrap with work around 6 or 7 PM, I walk out the office bag-less and empty-handed, hop on my bike, and ride home with a grin on my face! I leave work at work.
